I’m back as a married woman, everyone!
I am absolutely thrilled to report that I had my fairytale, once in a lifetime, perfect kind of wedding day and honeymoon. To us that came in the form of beautiful weather, all of our family and best friends who traveled near and very far, and the best combo of good beer + great tunes + BBQ. I can’t wait to share with you more about our wedding day in the near future!
We worked very hard for our big day. We’ve been saving for a year and half, planning every little detail, and anxiously waiting for the day to come. Although it was everything I could ever dream of, we COULD NOT wait for the honeymoon. You see, Ryan and I have never travelled alone anywhere, ever! This was our FIRST vacation together and it was so much fun and such a special trip. With a few photos from the camera and some crappy iPhone snaps mixed in, here are a few details about our getaway…
We stayed at the lovely Secrets Silversands resort in Riviera Maya. Oh my goodness, we loved it! The service was amazing, the rooms were spacious, beautifully designed, and clean, and the food was awesome. If you have never stayed at a Secrets resort before, then I’ll explain that there are six restaurants that you can choose to visit, each with a different style of food. We absolutely loved how fancy we got every night!
WHAT TO BRING
Are you planning your honeymoon? Here are a few unique things I think some people may forget about that we loved:
-Ummm, our SELFIE STICK! We got one for the wedding reception because they’re so funny and we forgot it at home. We wanted to bring one on the honeymoon so badly that we bought one at the airport for probably 5x what it was worth, ha. I think we laughed at the stupid pictures more than took good ones. Ha, poor Ryan, always waiting for me to get ready….
-SUNSCREEN (the kind I used all week..): Don’t buy it in Mexico if that is where you’re going! We’re talking like $35 for a little bottle of sunscreen. No thank you! But seriously, don’t think that you can just get super tan without wearing sunscreen. The sun is for reallll there.
–WORKOUT CLOTHES: Many of you are fitness-conscious, so I have a feeling this type of item would make it on your packing list. However, if you are thinking you’d like to just get away and not have to worry about working out, my biggest piece of advice is DON’T DO THAT! At this all-inclusive resort, all we did was try yummy foods and drink (a lot.. oops). By the third morning we felt literally sick! From that day, we decided to do a quick workout at the gym each morning and felt like gold. Most resorts also have fun activities that you should definitely partake in. I had the best view for yoga I think I’ll ever have and I also did water aerobics, which was hilariously AWESOME!
I almost started this paragraph with “one morning we got up early…” HA. Ryan and I are the absolute worst sleepers and can’t sleep past 6am, ever. We got up early every single morning and were the first ones up on the entire resort, which was so nice. But, one morning we got up extra early to intentionally see the sunrise and snap some photos for Aerie (more to come later!). Everything is breathtaking in Mexico and we loved this moment.
-The ROCK SHOW at the resort was absolutely amazing. 80s rock music fans (liiiiivin on a prayyyerrrr) this would be your jam. They had a legit cover band, glow sticks, and I even got up on stage (reluctantly) haha! So fun and Ryan even said THIS IS THE BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE and then felt bad for saying that *insert crying laughing face*…
-Trying different tequilas. I hate tequila but, when in Mexico right? We ended up making great friends with the bartender at that particular bar and he had us trying all sorts of things. You have to go a little crazy on vacation!
