Hi everyone! It’s been such a long time since I’ve religiously kept up with my blog. It’s funny – I spend all my days managing social media for clients and of course blogging away at Wedding Sparrow and it’s somehow made me want to share less of my personal life. I feel like so much of me is out there that I want to now hold it in. Odd, isn’t it?
Anyway, I’m back for now and sharing with you what you’ve seen a teeny bit on my Instagram! We finally bought a house in our little town of Campbellsburg, Indiana where my husband grew up. Long story short – Ryan got a new job (same company) about three weeks after our wedding. It wasn’t far, but far enough that we needed to move. We listed our home and it sat on the market for EIGHT MONTHS. We discovered horrific ($$$$) basement troubles and had to find a way to get them fixed or something! During these eight months, I lived in the house and Ryan lived with friends that lived closer to his job. So we didn’t live together after our wedding for eight months. It was stressful, sad, financially straining, and some days it didn’t seem like we’d ever solve our living situation problems. I know there are WAY, way, way worse troubles out there so every time we’d get a little stressed out, we’d remind each other of that and then move on. Keep on truckin’, looking for a new home and keeping the current one in tip top shape for the MANY showings we had… woof, so glad that’s over.
We wanted something that we could plant roots in and Ryan and I are NOT afraid of a little (a lot) of elbow grease… so fixer upper it was. I also have big ideas, lol, and a fixer upper was the only way we could afford to do some of these ideas like replacing floors, etc. After a few months of going back and forth with the seller of this home, an elderly lady who just had a very sentimental attachment to the home, we finally got it! Yay! Not without SOOO many issues of course, though.
But here we are, in our new home, sleeping on our air mattress (going on day 17 of that… we miss our bed, lets just say that), constantly breathing in dust, working until midnight every night, doing laundry at friends, eating microwavable food, and happy as larks. So happy. We are close to Ryan’s family, which is a blessing. I was long-distance from mine already and we are a bit farther than before, but now we have tons of room for them to stay overnight anytime (hint, hint guys, come on down!!!). The community is amazing, I am extremely proud to be a part of it, and I already love our small-town livin’ life. Only complaint is the faint smell of the pigs once in a blue moon hahaha… honestly no complaints though. Except the internet. But that’s another story…
When looking for our new home, we narrowed our “must-haves” to two things: 1) open space for large family and/or friend gatherings 2) enough space to stay for a while… we are SO over moving. I can honestly tell you that I’ve never dreamed of owning a home someday with specific decorative things or spaces – my dream home is one with an open door where anyone and everyone can come over as they please 🙂 Except that’s a tiny bit of a lie. I did always dream of having a “barn house” where my horses could stick their heads in my bedroom window, but I mean that’s it. Not a big deal… 😉 One of my favorite memories growing up was when we lived in a little house by the high school and friends would just stop by on their way home from school and my mom would make them cheese quesadillas. I want to be that. This house checked all those boxes.
I suppose I’ll come out of my hole I’ve been hiding in to keep you all updated on our renovation. Not that anyone really cares, but as we go through, maybe some of our choices can help you decide on yours! Here is a list of things we plan to do or have done already, after very careful budgeting and planning:
-replace all floors
-gut kitchen, replace cabinets and appliances, add island
-open up living space
-close in previous formal dining room for an office
-every single wall painted & all trim painted (fml)
-landscaping… not sure where even to begin out there, eek.
I’ll start soon with going over our floor dilemmas and options next week! Thanks for reading guys – plenty of photos coming soon! In the meantime, if you know of any uhhhmazing Pinterest profiles or IGs to follow for home decor, let me know! xo
