Summer, house progress, blackberries… yes!
Our Aunt Dar (florist extraordinaire!) took me on a garden tour of our house when we first moved in to see what we had going on. We discovered hydrangeas, peonies, tons of Easter lilies, roses, more unknown flowers, rhubarb, gooseberries, an apple tree, and TONS of blackberries. This is really exciting for me since blackberries are one of the handful of fruits I actually like AND our first home together had a precious blackberry bush. I’ve read that it takes years to get a blackberry bush to bear fruit, so this is a total win.
We’ll finally be able to have a garden next year, but this year it was a total loss. Harvesting fruits and vegetables from your own garden is a feeling like no other, plus how FRESH can you get? I’ve been heading out every few days or so to pick the ripe berries. Besides my new weekly routine of checking on the berries, you can see we’ve made some MAJOR progress on our house. I will be posting a complete before post, but in photos I think you could tell that our home was that orangey 70’s brick color that didn’t work with what we envisioned. We painted the exterior of our home Alabaster by Sherwin Williams with a Masonry paint. We used a sprayer and got it done in one day (!!!). I will post more of that later but let’s just say it’s such a complete difference. It’s been a few weeks now, but we were getting a steady 10-ish cars a day that almost stopped in front of the house like WHATTTTT? 😉
Below is a ‘recipe’ I made for breakfast morning and I use the term ‘recipe’ loosely… there are like two ingredients ha. I’ve also rounded up a few recipes I plan to use with these babies plus an article I read on freezing fresh berries, enjoy!
1 cup blackberries
2 bananas cut up
1 cup strawberries
1/2 cup blueberries
1 tablespoon of sugar free vanilla pudding mix
Cut up your fruits, stir in the tiny bit of vanilla pudding mix, and voila! SO good.
Blackberry vanilla chia seed jam (adapted from this recipe)
PAINT: Sherwin Williams – Alabaster
CERAMIC BERRY BASKET: Vintage, but similar here
